The School Bus-Themed Playground
The school bus-themed play structure is the standout feature at Westacre Park. Parents will instantly become nostalgic for the Magic School Bus. Essentially, the playground is a school bus, and it’s very prominent across the whole park. Kids who love vehicles will have a ton of fun playing in the bus and sliding out of it.
There are two ways to access the school bus structure: a ramp, the easy and accessible way to access it, or adventurous kids can climb up to the bus via a cargo net ladder. There are some interactive elements inside the bus, like steering wheels and other play things to slide around. There are also some features under the bus.

Two slides depart from inside the bus. The open-air slide is the easiest of the two to access. However, the tunnel slide requires another small climb to access. Younger kids might be able to play with some of the interactive features inside the bus, but it’s a challenging play structure for kids under 4. Also, although the open-air slide is easy to access, it’s a bit steep and not ideal for younger kids.
Other Playground Features
Besides the school bus playground structure, there’s not much else to this playground. It was perfect for my 4-year-old, but my 2-year-old was not able to do much. There’s a robot kids can climb through, a 4-person see-saw, and a few musical instruments. However, this playground is not great for toddlers.
I will also say that after several times going up and down the school bus, my 4-year-old got bored. While the structure itself is really cool, it’s not suitable for small children, and it’s a small playground.

There are some swings at Westacre park, which include regular swings and a web swing. Unfortunately, there are no bucket swings for babies, further limiting what small kids can do.
Splash Pad at Westacre Park

The Westacre Park splash pad is now the second splash pad in West Sacramento and the fourth splash pad in Yolo County. It’s a fantastic addition for summer activities for kids in Yolo County and the Sacramento area.
Younger kids who might not be big enough for the school bus play structure will have fun at the splash pad. This splash pad features various-shaped water sprayers, fountains, a water cannon, and a waterfall that flows below a large “West Sac” sign. It’s a spacious splash pad and makes my list of best splash pads in the Sacramento area.

The splash pad and playground are right next to each other. In fact, my youngest child kept running out of the splash pad toward the playground. Covered picnic tables border the splash pad on each side. It’s also next to the restrooms (which thankfully have changing tables!).
West Sacramento splash pad hours differ from most other splash pads in the Sacramento area. 2026 splash pad operating hours are below:
- Friday, July 10 – Monday, September 7, 2026: Open daily from 12pm to 8pm
- Tuesday, September 8 – Sunday, September 27, 2026: Open daily from 1pm to 7pm
Rock Climbing Wall

It’s not every day you see a rock climbing wall at a playground, but Westacre Park has one. Think bouldering among a long, horizontal wall instead of climbing upward and vertically. The ramp to the bus splits the rock climbing wall. One side of the ramp features fun shapes for younger kids to test and hold, while the other side gets more challenging for older kids.
The rock climbing wall is a very unique playground feature at this West Sacramento park, and kids who enjoy new adventures will appreciate the active play.
Skate Park at Westacre Park

Another popular attraction at Westacre Park is its skate park. Adults were especially using the skate park. While there were a few kids and their families at the skate park, I’d say this is an advanced course best suited for teens and adults.
The skate park is very large and even has a covered section (almost like an indoor skate park area). I don’t know much about skate parks, but this seemed like a really nice one with ample space and a wide range of elements.
Sports Courts
There are a variety of sports courts for families to utilize at Westacre Park. The pickleball courts and futsal court are gated.
Sports courts include:
- Basketball court
- Pickleball courts
- Futsal court
If you’ve never heard of a Futsal Court, think of it like a basketball court where you play soccer on a hard, smaller surface. The court has built-in goals. The pickleball courts and the futsal court are open daily from 7am to 8pm.

Reflexology Path
In the back of the park, there’s a rocky path lined with stones that’s called a reflexology path that turns into a labyrinth. The path is for wellness and is meant to be walked barefoot.
A reflexology path is a path embedded with small stones raised above the surface, meant to be walked on barefoot to stimulate pressure points while helping ease tension and promote relaxation. This is probably more for adults, but my kids had fun walking and jumping on the rocks throughout the path.

Grassy Area
There is a large grassy area at Westacre Park which would be ideal for picnics, flying kites, or kicking a ball around. It’s a wide open space where kids can enjoy free play.
Park Amenities
Restrooms

Westacre Park has restrooms! There are two restrooms, and each has changing tables. The restrooms are next to the splash pad, making it easy to change kids in and out of their bathing suits. There is a water refill fountain at the restroom, as well.
The restrooms have specific hours, which are as follows:
- March to October: 7:30am to 7pm
- November to February: 8am to 2:30pm
Shaded Picnic Tables
Shaded picnic tables are available at Westacre Park next to the splash pad and playground. At this time, the picnic tables are first-come, first-served and not available to reserve for parties.

What Ages Is Westacre Park Best For?
Older kids will get the most out of Westacre Park. The school bus play structure is challenging for younger kids to climb, which includes climbing to reach the tunnel slide. There are limited play options for younger kids, and no baby swings. Older children will enjoy fun challenges from climbing rock walls to testing their abilities in the skate park.
There are fantastic toddler playgrounds in the Sacramento area, but unfortunately Westacre Park is not one of them. However, little kids will have a great time at the seasonal splash pad, which kids of all ages will enjoy.

In the summer after the 4th of July in Sacramento, people line up to get one of Whitey’s famous peach milkshakes. These are farm-to-fork milkshakes and tend to sell out. It’s a must-have treat that should be on your Sacramento summer bucket list. If you plan to visit Whitey’s Jolly Kone on the weekend, a heads up that it’s closed on Sundays.
