Día de los Muertos Events in Sacramento for Families 2025
Families can celebrate Día de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) and honor loved ones throughout the Sacramento Area. From sugar skull decorating to community ofrendas, there are many Día de los Muertos events in Sacramento for kids of all ages.
While Día de los Muertos is officially on November 1 and 2, right after Halloween, many Day of the Dead events will be happening in October, with most occurring the first weekend of November.
The popular Annual El Panteón de Sacramento takes place for three days at the Latino Center for Arts and Culture. Younger kids will appreciate Día de los Muertos Community Night at the Sacramento Children’s Museum. Several Día de los Muertos 5k runs also occur.
In addition to the many Día de los Muertos events, the California Museum has the temporary exhibit, Recuerdos Ilustrados: Día de los Muertos 2025 on view through November 16, 2025, and the Sacramento History Museum has RCAF in Mictlán (50th Anniversary of Dia de los Muertos) on view through April 5, 2026. Visit Community altars at Atrium 916 in Old Sacramento, and the Davis Cemetery.

Visit the Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento for a Community Day on Saturday, September 27, 2025 to kickoff the museum’s new exhibition, RCAF in Mictlán: 50th Anniversary of Dia de los Muertos. There will be family-friendly activities, including crafts and music. Admission will be half-priced.
Bring the whole family to celebrate Arts in the Heart on Saturday, October 11, 2025 in West Sacramento. This free multicultural community event will have calavera (sugar skull) decorating, a Día De Los Muertos altar you can add photos to, a chalk the walk, art, dance performances, and more.
The California Museum will be having a family-friendly Día de los Muertos Fiesta on Saturday, October 11, 2025 to celebrate the opening of their newest exhibit, Recuerdos Ilustrados: Día de los Muertos 2025. There will be interactive activities, face painting (for ages 3+), Aztec dancers, and more.

Celebrate Día de los Muertos with a free Low Rider trunk-or-treat on Friday, October 24, 2025 at the Marketplace at Birdcage in Citrus Heights. There will be lots of candy, face painting, folklórico dancers, and more. While this is a free event, pre-registration is requested.
In honor of Día de los Muertos, kids can participate in Sugar Skull Decorating and enjoy pan de muerto on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the South Davis Montgomery Library. Available while supplies last.

The Esparto Regional Library in Yolo County will have a free Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. There will be activities, a special presentation by Grupo Telpochkalli, hot chocolate, and more. Families can also photos to the community altar.

The Annual El Panteón de Sacramento takes place over three days from October 31 – November 2, 2025. The Davis Chamber of Commerce Dia de Muertos celebration takes place on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at G Street Plaza. There will be ofrendas from 4-7pm, and vendor booths from 4:30-7pm.
Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Dave’s Pumpkin Patch on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 & 2, 2025. There will be Mariachi performances, face painting, and an Ofrenda that visitors can contribute photos and notes.
