Free Sensory Bags & Sensory Room at Golden 1 Center

Golden 1 Center in Sacramento is a fixture at the epicenter of downtown Sacramento. The venue is most famously home to the Sacramento Kings, who play their basketball games there, making it one of the most popular things to do in Sacramento with kids. The Golden 1 Center also hosts popular family events throughout the year, such as Disney On Ice and Monster Jam.

What you might not know about the Golden 1 Center is that it was the first venue in California to receive a sensory-inclusive certification, offering a sensory room and sensory bags for families with kids who have sensory processing needs.

These are free services available at all venue events and mark a milestone inclusive experience for kids who want to experience large-scale arena events but may need additional supportive tools or a calming room if events are too overwhelming.

What Are Sensory Bags?

Golden 1 Center partners with Kulture City to provide free sensory bags for children to borrow who need supportive tools to feel more comfortable in new or overstimulating environments. Anyone is welcome to borrow a sensory bag during any Golden 1 Center event.

The Kulture City sensory bags at Golden 1 Center include noise-reducing headphones, a weighted lap pillow, fidget tools, and verbal cue cards. They are a game-changer for kids who may require extra support for sensory sensitivities.

How to Get A Sensory Bag

To borrow a sensory bag during an event at the Golden 1 Center, head to Guest Services. You’ll leave an ID with them, provide the section you’re sitting in, and immediately get a sensory bag. The sensory bags are in a clear, plastic drawstring bag.

Guest Services at Golden 1 Center is located behind sections 109 and 207. Your ID will be returned when the sensory bag is returned.

Sensory Room at Golden 1 Center

In addition to sensory bags, a sensory room is also available at the Golden 1 Center. Many families are not aware that this inclusive accommodation exists at the Golden 1 Center. The arena was the first sensory room in a California sports venue, an amazing stepping stone for the city of Sacramento.

While I have personally borrowed a sensory kit for my oldest child at the arena, I’ve not yet checked out the sensory room. The last time I was at the Golden 1 Center for Disney On Ice, I did ask about what the process was for bringing kids there, if needed.

If your child needs a break in a calming setting, the Golden 1 Center sensory room offers a respite. To get to the sensory room, like the sensory kits, you’ll go to Guest Services to request to be taken to the sensory room. From there, an escort will take you to the sensory room.

The sensory room at Golden 1 Center has calming bubbles, textured walls, customized furniture, and soothing sounds in a quieter setting.
